Jun 1, 2018 | 2:32 PM

The Battlefords North Stars made their picks earlier today at the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s 2018 Bantam Draft.

Held in Nipawin, the Battlefords North Stars were the 11th of out 12 teams to pick and decided in the first round to choose forward Holden Doell of the Martensville Marauders Bantam AA. Last season he finished with 24 goals and 14 assists.

In the second round, Warman’s Keenan Allen of the Rink Hockey Academy Bantam Prep was selected, followed by defenseman Hunter Weber with the Saskatoon Generals. The fifth-round pick went to forward Ethan Scriven of the Warman Wildcats and sixth was forward Riley Girod of the Saskatoon Generals. The North Stars also drafted Prairie Hockey Academy Cougars’ leading scorer Atley Calverty from Moose Jaw in the sixth round, after receiving the pick through a trade with Yorkton.

Although these players won’t be eligible to play for the North Stars for years, the process assists in the creation of a team’s roster in the future.
