Local cannabis retailers selected

Jun 1, 2018 | 11:26 AM

The names of the three retailers who will operate the province’s cannabis retail stores in North Battleford and Battleford were announced by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority Friday morning.

In all, 51 cannabis retail store permits were announced by the Minister Responsible for SLGA, Gene Makowsky.

In North Battleford, two cannabis retail store permits were issued to Envirosafe Chemicals Canada and Synergy Five Investments LP. The lone permit allotted for the Town of Battleford was awarded to Prairie Sky Cannabis, who was also successful in securing the permits in Martensville, Moosomin, and Estevan.

The two-phase request for proposal process began in March, and the first phase involved screening for qualifications while focusing on financial and sales/inventory tracking systems. Those that qualified entered the second phase of the process which was a lottery draw to select the successful operators. KPMG was engaged to provide oversight and monitor the entire process.

The successful retailers now have 45 days to begin the permitting process. These permits will not take effect until cannabis is legalized, which is expected later this summer. As a condition of the permits, those selected must be operating within 12 months of federal legalization.
