Garden party for mental health set for June 16

May 31, 2018 | 12:00 PM

After the huge response to last year’s Garden Party hosted by the Battlefords Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), organizers are looking to exceed the more than 120 who attended.

Executive Director Jane Zielke de Montbrun said party goers will notice this year’s event will be on June 16 which is a Saturday evening rather than a Friday night and it will be held at Destination Battlefords.

“Last year’s event was so much fun and of course we know this year’s Garden Party will be just as amazing,” Zielke de Montbrun said. “We are really looking forward to having it at Destination Battlefords this year. It’s a beautiful venue and you will be able to see geese and wildlife and fingers crossed a spectacular sunset.”

The Garden Party is an evening of food, drink and music featuring local acts Beer League, Back of the Bus and R&B singer Denise Valle accompanied by local musicians.

“It’s a treat to have the lineup of entertainment that we do for this year’s Garden Party,” she added. “Everyone raved about Beer League and Back of the Bus last year and to add an incredible voice like Denise (Valle) is wonderful.”

All funds raised from this year’s Garden Party will go toward the organization’s fundraising project to purchase a new minibus for those who participate in the work experience program.

“We want those who are involved in the program to have a good working environment and that includes good transportation that is not difficult to get in and out of,” she said. “We also want to have a vehicle that will have storage space for flyers and snow removal equipment for them that is accessible.”

The estimated cost of the minibus is around $70,000.

“We have just begun our fundraising for this project and had a terrific response to our Tattoo Day last week which raised $6,500,” Zielke de Montbrun added. “Last year’s Garden Party raised over $50,000 so we hope we can meet that target this year to help get us close to our goal.”

There is no admission to attend the Garden Party however guests attending must pre-register and encouraged to make a donation to the Battlefords Branch of CMHA. For complete details on the Garden Party contact Jane Zielke de Montbrun at the Battlefords Branch of CMHA.
