Pink Floyd tribute show coming to town

May 30, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Battlefords residents with an appreciation or a sense of nostalgia for the music of former British rock band Pink Floyd can expect a tribute show at the Dekker Centre next month.

PIGS: Canada’s Pink Floyd Tribute is a nod to the ever-present floating pig-shaped inflatable seen at Pink Floyd concerts when the band was still together. Pig is also the title of one of Pink Floyd’s songs from the album Animals that came out in 1977.

The band of musicians in the tribute show formed 10 years ago in Victoria.

“They are the only national touring Pink Floyd act,” Caroline Spence, who is helping organize the event, said. “They are the number one Pink Floyd act in Canada right now.”

This is the last leg of the band’s shows and North Battleford is the second to last stop on their tour.

Spence said the band will play many Pink Floyd favourites as well as some “deep cuts” that the original Pink Floyd didn’t often play live.

“The guys are very knowledgeable about Pink Floyd,” she said. “They know every last detail. They are trying to bring people the authentic sound of 1970s Pink Floyd — what you would have heard when you went to a concert in those days. That’s what they are trying to create.”

She said the musicians also have the same models of guitars that Pink Floyd used as well.

“They are very particular,” Spence added. “When they say they are Canada’s most authentic Pink Floyd, they really mean it.”

The PIGS show will take place on Friday at the Dekker Centre in North Battleford starting at 8 p.m.
