Royal wedding themed fundraiser nets over $3,200

A unique plan to fund much-needed repairs to the roof of their hall was a success for St. Paul’s Anglican Church.

The lighthearted event held last Friday tied in with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s nuptials, which was fitting because Harry’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the Anglican Church of Canada.

Dr. Victoria Lamb Drover, a member of the fundraising committee, said the sold-out affair was a truly royal soirée, which helped them exceed their $3,000 fundraising goal.

“We wanted to do something light, something exciting, and something new to the Battlefords,” she said. “We were able to raise that and more, about $3,200.”

She said it was a lively evening featuring local performers who played a wide variety of music ranging from reggae to pop to country. The funds raised will now help volunteers at the church start much-needed work on a century-old structure on their grounds, she said.

“Our upper hall needs new screws and new hardware for the tin roof so it can last another 20 years and serve our community,” Lamb Drover said. “It took a community to do this fundraiser.”

Renovations on the building will start in early July.
