Odd-Even water scheduling now in effect for North Battleford

May 24, 2018 | 8:00 AM

As has been the case for the past number of years, the City of North Battleford is once again advising residents that the odd-even water schedule is now in effect.

Residents and businesses whose house numbers end in an even number may water their yards and garden only on even-numbered days. Likewise, residents and businesses whose house numbers end in an odd number may water on odd-number days.

“We’ve been doing this [odd-even watering] for a number of years now as we try to conserve water,” said the city’s communications coordinator Susanne Abe. “This is almost like a summertime tradition here in North Battleford and ideally we would like everyone to get into a habit of doing it without being reminded.”

The useage of water also includes washing cars, house siding, boats and anything else deemed as unnecessary. She said that the formula for the water schedule is pretty simple.

“If your house or business number ends with a one, three, five, seven or nine you may only water on odd number days such as May 23,” she noted. “And if you live or work somewhere that ends in a zero, two, four, six, or eight you can only water on even numbers such as May 24.”

Abe added these long hot dry days this early into summer has prompted the city to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to conserving water.
