Race for Kids fundraiser coming next month

May 23, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Entering its fourth year, organizers with the Battlefords Boys and Girls Club (BBGC) are hoping for yet another record turnout for The Co-operators Race for Kids on Saturday, June 4, to raise funds for the organization’s programs.

The Co-operators Race for Kids is a fun twist on a the popular reality TV shows , Minute To Win It, and The Amazing Race pitting teams of four against each other in a test of teamwork and endurance according to BBGC executive director Nicole Combres.

“The teams race to the checkpoint location where there will be some kind of challenge they must complete,” Combres added. “Once they complete that challenge they move on until they finish the race.”

The event will begin at the Blend Restaurant at 10 a.m. on June 4, with an entry fee of $15 per person. Teams who raise $400 or more will be eligible for one of the many prizes including a WestJet voucher for two anywhere the airline flies.

“This without a doubt is our biggest fundraiser we host every year,” she said. “Last year we had eight teams take part and raised over $26,000 and we are hoping to build on that success.”

Combres said while the adults will be competing for the prizes, the kids in the community will be the big winners as all proceeds from The Co-operators Race for Kids will stay right here in the Battlefords.

“It means a lot to our competitors to know that 100 per cent of the monies raised are used locally and will benefit the almost 500 children we serve in our community,” Combres said.
