North Battleford City Hall decided to change the firm it is using for its paving work this year to ensure the projects get done in time, even though that means paying more.

Council accepted the recommendation from administration to go with the higher of the two bids received for the roadways project at $3,337,602 from K & S Asphalt Services Ltd. The accepted bid is almost $92,000 higher than the lower bid. Both estimates received came in under the city’s budgetted amount of $3,631,849.

Mayor Ryan Bater said following council unfinished work from 2017 was an issue.

“Concerns have been raised about the timeliness of the work last year, and a lot of that work is still incomplete,” he said.

City engineer Bob Anthony said in his report the city was worried if it went with the firm used last year the company may not be able to complete the 2018 work since it would still be committed to completing work that was left over from the prior year at the same time.

Included among the summary of the city’s 2018 nine capital works projects for roadways in this contract are the 101 St. rehabilitation (12 to 14 Avenues); the airport CAP project runway upgrade; Thomas Avenue (Abbott to Foley); 98 Street rehabilitation (17 to 18 Ave); and 101 Crescent and Douglas Ave.
