Women Who Care give $9,700 boost to Battlefords United Way

Thursday night was very rewarding for the Battlefords United Way.

The 100 Women Who Care members in the Battlefords made a donation of $9,700 to the Battlefords United Way’s. Events and Campaign Co-ordinator Rose Silzer-Quinn thanked the ladies for their donation, which she said will help the many non-profit organizations in the Battlefords that the local United Way supports.

Sandra Backus, who sits on the Women Who Care steering committee, said the ladies were thrilled to continue to show their support to another charitable organization in the Battlefords.

“It’s very heartwarming,” Backus said. “That is just money collected from the members present tonight … The rest of the money will be trickling in after from members who weren’t able to attend.”

Everyone who joins The100 Women Who Care The Battlefords must commit to donating $100 four times a year for the charities the group selects. The group, which was founded two years ago, has given a total of $85,600 to local charities so far.

“We have a lot of wonderful, beautiful committed ladies in our community and we’re very grateful,” Backus said. “We have no expenses; every penny we take in tonight is donated to the charity.”
