Street Fest fundraiser Fiesta gets early start

May 3, 2018 | 8:03 AM

The major annual fundraiser supporting the upcoming North Battleford International Street Performer Festival will be getting an early start this year.

Called Street Fest Fiesta, the event taking place Saturday will have a Cinco de Mayo celebration theme. Last year the fundraiser was held on the Thursday before the start of the festival, but this year organizers decided to move the fundraiser to an earlier date to make it easier for more people to take part.

“We’re hoping it will do a little better. We also wanted to make sure we weren’t putting too much stress on our performers and our volunteers,” Street Fest Co-Chair Janaye Chubb said.

Having the fundraiser the day before the Street Fest start last year took a lot of energy from everyone involved, Chubb said.

This year’s Mexican Fiesta fundraiser event includes a variety of themed activities. There will be a taco buffet at 10 p.m., and face painting in the Day of the Dead style by makeup artists.

“On top of all of that, we’re having live music perform,” Chubb said.

The fundraiser is a big help for Street Fest, Chubb said, which takes place July 27 and 28 on 101st St. The event includes buskers providing entertainment as well as a number of merchant booths.

The Street Fest Fiesta fundraiser will take place May 5 at the Don Ross Centre gymnasium starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are available through the Street Fest Fiesta Facebook page.
