Fire ban in effect for city and RM of North Battleford

Apr 26, 2018 | 9:23 AM

Dry conditions and high winds have caused the city and RM of North Battleford to implement a cautionary fire ban.

The city issued a release Thursday morning, which quoted North Battleford Fire Chief, Trevor Brice, stating the department has already attended a few grass fires.

According to the release, any controlled burning outside of an approved fire pit is prohibited until further notice.

Brice said in the release, he encouraged residents to make their properties as fire safe as possible.

“Keep dry vegetation and combustibles away from buildings, be cautious with discarded smoking materials, and please report any suspicious activity or fire starters to the RCMP and or Community Safety Officers,” said Brice.

Anyone who still plans to use their legal fire pits are advised to maintain close supervision of the fire, have an adequate supply of water to extinguish the fire, properly extinguish the fire after use and pay close attention to the wind or spark hazards.

Any concerned residents are advised to contact the North Battleford Fire Department or the RM of North Battleford.
