Man arrested after high-risk search appears in court

A man facing charges related to an RCMP high-risk search in Battleford on April 20 appeared in North Battleford provincial court, Monday.

James (Jimmy) Ebach, 64, who is in custody, is facing charges of two counts of improper storage of a firearm; three counts of possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace or for the purpose of committing an offence; two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm, a restricted firearm or a non-restricted firearm without being the holder of it; one count of possessing property obtained by crime; one count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon; and one count of possessing a firearm, a cross-bow, a prohibited weapon, a restricted weapon, or a prohibited device while the person is prohibited from doing so. 

Crown prosecutor Lu Zhao was opposed to his release.

The case was adjourned until Tuesday at 9:30 am as Ebach obtains legal aid counsel.

According the RCMP report, at 4 a.m. on April 20, Battlefords RCMP arrested a man after conducting a high-risk search with a warrant at a location in Battleford, with assistance from the F Division Emergency Response Team, Municipal GIS, Provincial GIS, and other support units. Police said no one was injured as a result of this incident and a number of weapons have been seized as part of an ongoing investigation. The RCMP said the incident was part of its strategic enforcement strategies for crime reduction within the Battlefords communities.

The allegations against the accused have not been proven in court.
