Get behind the microphone and support BUH Foundation

Apr 19, 2018 | 12:01 PM

You don’t have to have a booming radio voice to step behind the microphone and show your support for the Battleford Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation.

With the third annual On Air for Health Care radiothon just three weeks away on CJNB/CJNS, Q98 and 93.3 The Rock, local businesses are showing their support by selling “I Care for Health Care” microphones, which will be displayed in the lobby of the hospital just in time for the 12-hour live radiothon May 11.

“I Care for Health Care” microphones are available at Scott Campbell Dodge, Country Cuisine, Fisher’s Drug Store, Taco Time, all three Discovery Co-op Gas Bars, the Co-op Food Store and Sobeys.

“The BUH is here for everyone and adds so much to our community,” Sobeys Owner Grace Lang said. “We really wanted to do our part and help support this initiative, and we hope to sell as many of these microphones as possible.”

This year’s radiothon will be raising money for the “We Don’t Want to Miss A Beat” campaign, which will purchase a new cardiac telemetry system to allow patients with cardiac disease to move freely around the hospital while still being monitored in intensive care.

“I have had my share of heart issues in the past, and it will be pretty exciting to have more equipment like the new cardiac telemetry system right here in the area,” Lang added.

This year’s radiothon will be broadcasted on the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group of stations in the Battlefords and Meadow Lake May 11 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a campaign goal of $217,000.

“Every time the foundation does something for our hospital, they add to the fabric of the facility and our community,” Lang said. “Every single piece of equipment they have purchased has enhanced the lives of people in our health region.”

Leanne Ducommun, marketing and communications manager at Discovery Co-op, said that as a locally owned and operated business, the Co-op understands the importance of investing in communities and giving back.

“Campaigns like this are an intricate part of keeping our communities thriving,” Ducommun said. “We believe that giving back is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference.”

“I Care for Health Care” microphones cost just $2. Anyone who would like to become involved with the On Air for Health Care radiothon by volunteering was encouraged to contact the BUH Foundation office.
