North Stars Braid, Magnes given suspensions

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has handed down suspensions to two Battlefords North Stars players following Saturday’s 6-5 win in game two of their quarter-final series against Weyburn.

Chaseton Braid was given a two-game suspension for a spearing incident in the second period of Saturday’s game, while defenceman Garan Magnes was given a one-game ban for a kicking incident in the third.

Braid was previously playing on the top line with Layne Young and MacGregor Sinclair, which presents a hole that could be filled by a number of players including Dakota Huebner, Keith Anderson or Elijah Loon-Stewardson, who each played at times with the big guns this season. Magnes was previously paired with Levi Kleiboer, which now means Connor Smith draws into the lineup on defence, though he likely won’t play with Kleiboer in game three.
