BYSI well represented on SSA’s grassroots team of the year
Eight Battlefords Youth Soccer Inc. players and their coach were named as part of the grassroots team of the year at the Saskatchewan Soccer Association’s awards night in Saskatoon last weekend.
The award went to the U-16 boy’s squad who competed at the North American Indigenous Games in Toronto last summer and won a silver medal, beating Alberta, Manitoba and New York before falling to British Columbia 1-0 in the gold medal game. The eight players on that team were Rayne Armstrong, Creighton Baptiste, Mason Bird, Tyrell Lewis, Levin Lightfoot, Juleus Moosomin, Ian Peeteetuce, and Draydin Stone. BYSI Executive Director Kelly Villeneuve was an assistant coach with the team.
All eight players are eligible to try out for the U-19 team at the next North American Indigeous Games, which have not been confirmed yet. In-person registration for BYSI will take place March 20 and 21 at the soccer hut in Centennial Park.
