Mar 16, 2018 | 9:44 PM

A North Battleford woman was taken to hospital for treatment after being struck by a car outside a grocery store at the north end of the city Friday afternoon.

Battlefords RCMP, the local fire department and EMS were called to the scene at about 4:05 p.m.

Battlefords RCMP Cpl. Jeff Carter reported the woman who is about 80 years of age was walking out of the Sobeys grocery store when she was hit by a car near the front doors, as the car was reversing while entering the parking lot.

The woman was knocked over when the car backed up.

The officer said the woman suffered a cut to the right side of her head and face when she fell onto the pavement.

Carter said the driver stopped and came back to help the woman. Several pedestrians and store employees also assisted her until the ambulance arrived.

“As soon as they realized what happened they came and helped her out,” Carter said.

The woman was taken to Battlefords Union Hospital where she received stitches for her injuries. The officer added she is in stable condition.

The RCMP reviewed video surveillance from the scene.

“It doesn’t appear [the driver] did a shoulder check or looked in the mirror or he obviously would have seen [the woman],” said the officer.

Carter said the vehicle was moving at a relatively slow speed in the parking lot when it struck the woman. He said the vehicle was reversing and “she was right there.”

The officer said the North Battleford man who was driving the car is facing a charge of driving without due care and attention.
