Senior hockey provincial brackets set

Jan 23, 2018 | 11:00 AM

The 2018 senior men’s hockey provincial draws are now out, with seven Sask West Hockey League (SWHL) teams, two Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League (SPHL) teams, and one Beaver Lakes Hockey League (BLHL) team giving it a go.

From the SWHL, the Wilkie Outlaws are once again entering in the A bracket, along with the Kindersley Red Lions, the Biggar Nationals and Unity Miners are entering in the B bracket, the Kerrobert Tigers and Macklin Mohawks are entering in the C bracket, and the Luseland Mallards are going to be playing in the D bracket.

The BLHL’s Meadow Lake Broncos will join Wilkie in the A bracket, while the SPHL’s Hafford Hawks will compete in the C division, and the Edam Three Stars are in the D bracket again.

The A bracket is the only division where first round series are a best two-of-three.

Wilkie will take on the Hillmond Hitmen in the first round beginning on Feb. 10 at home. Game two is set for Feb. 17 in Hillmond and game three, if neccessary, will be played on Feb. 18 back in Wilkie.

Meadow Lake will take on Hague beginning on Feb. 3 on the road. Then the Broncos will host game two on Feb. 10, with game three, if neccessary, set for Feb. 11.

Kindersley will face off against Shaunavon on Feb. 4, 9 and 11.

The B, C, and D divisions are all a best-of-two, where the total number of goals scored serves as the tie-breaker. If that is tied, overtime will decide the winner.

Unity’s series will begin on Feb. 9 at Eston, with game two set for Feb. 17 at home. The dates for the Biggar series, against Beechy, have not yet been determined, but Biggar has received a bye to the second round, so that series won’t begin until close to March.

In the C division, the Hafford Hawks will face off against the Macklin Mohawks, with their series beginning on Jan. 30 in Hafford. Game two is scheduled for Feb. 17. Kerrobert will take on Lanigan beginning on Feb. 3 and ending on Feb. 17.

Finally, in the D bracket, the Edam Three Stars will take on the Kenaston Blizzards starting Feb. 10 in Edam. Game two is set for Feb. 17 in Kenaston.

Luseland is taking on Loreburn in round one, with games also set for Feb. 10 and 17.
