N.B. Fire Dept. announces new leadership team

Jan 9, 2018 | 4:00 PM

The North Battleford Fire Department has formed a new leadership following a number of promotions.

Trevor Brice, the former deputy fire chief – operations and training, has been promoted to fire chief/ director of protective services; Lindsay Holm, the former captain, is now moving into the position of deputy fire chief – operations and training; and Jordan Rowswell – the former acting captain – has been appointed to the position of captain.

As well, Erinka Jordan moves up from her clerical position to the role of protective services administrative assistant to complete the team.

The announcement was made at Monday’s council meeting.

Mayor Ryan Bater said he was pleased to see the members appointed to their new roles.

He said the individuals taking on the new titles have served the people of North Battleford for “not just a long time, but also in a very professional way.”

“It’s encouraging to see these people in new roles. Our congratulations to them,” said the mayor.

Fire Chief Trevor Brice said the fire department has hired a new full-time firefighter, who started Jan. 6, as part of the work to backfill positions as required following the promotions, to ensure there is a full complement of full-time firefighter staff.

“We’re happy to have the new team in place and are looking forward to the future,” he added.

Brice said there is one position – deputy chief of prevention – that is not filled at the moment, but the fire department will review this vacancy over the next few months before making any decisions on the matter.

He said the fire department is now looking for more paid-on-call firefighters interested in joining.

Currently, the fire department has 14 paid-on-call members, but would like to have six more to bring the total number up to 20.

The fire department has 16 full-time firefighters including four captains, the chief and deputy chief.
