TSB releases photos of Fond du Lac plane wreckage

Dec 15, 2017 | 12:13 PM

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) has released photographs of the Fond du Lac plane crash wreckage.

Based on the appearance, it seems all the more remarkable that the 25 passengers onboard escaped with their lives. While there were no fatalities, some suffered serious injuries and required air ambulance transport.

The West Wind Aviation ATR-42 was bound for Stoney Rapids carrying 22 passengers and three crew members when it crashed shortly after take-off Wednesday evening.

Community members and first responders spent hours at the site helping to free some passengers from the plane. They were forced to rip away pieces of the craft to gain access.

It is not clear how much of the damage to the central part of the fuselage was caused by the rescuers as opposed to the initial impact.
