Battleford RCMP officers are stepping up their efforts to keep the roads safe for everyone this year especially with the holidays just around the corner.

In recent weeks, the detachment and the North Battleford Community Safety Officer (CSO) have been involved in SGI’s Overdrive Project, conducting various checkpoints through the City of North Battleford and the Town of Battleford.

Checkpoints were set up in the region on Wednesday night with 471 cars being stopped and checked for offences under the Criminal Code. As a result five vehicles were towed away because of suspended drivers licences. Ttwo open liquor tickets were issued as well one person was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle by drugs and a roadside suspension was also issued.

RCMP Cpl. James Fenrich added the project will continue throughout the Christmas season with rotating checkpoints in the area.
