Community safety open house offers residents advice

Nov 16, 2017 | 10:49 AM

North Battleford residents concerned about crime, had an opportunity to learn yesterday about new community initiatives.

These initiatives include the city’s Eyes that Care program. The neighbourhood watch-style program gives participants a motion-sensor security light just for signing up. By taking part in the program they agree to help keep watch over their neighbourhood, meet with their neighbours, and report any suspicious activity to the RCMP.

The Battlefords Citizens on Patrol were also at the event. Chair Bernie Misselbrook said the organization wants more people to volunteer and register their security cameras. He said city hall, Citizens on Patrol and the local RCMP believed the registry was a worthwhile crime fighting tool.

“We agreed it would be a good thing,” he said. “It gets more people involved, and it’s security for your neighbourhood.”
