Nov 8, 2017 | 1:00 PM

There will no shortage of names to choose from when members of the Battlefords-Lloydminster Conservative Party select their standard bearer for the upcoming Dec. 11 byelection.

The byelection was one of four called across the country by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday to fill recent vacancies, which also included the ridings of Bonavista-Burin-Trinity in Newfoundland, South Surrey-White Rock in B.C. and Scarborough-Agincourt in Ontario.

Vying for the Conservative nomination are: Rosemarie Falk of Lloydminster, a former Legislative Assistant for M.P. Arnold Viersen; Town of Langham Mayor John Hildebrand; Lloydminster business owner Aron Klassen; Bernie Morton, chief administrative officer for the City of Kindersley; and Prongua farmer Richard Nelson.

The seat has been vacant since Oct. 2 following the departure of Gerry Ritz who has represented the riding since 1997. Ritz announced his retirement from politics in late August.

The Liberals and NDP have yet to announce their nomination dates or potential candidates, while Dan Palmer of the Green Party told battlefordsNOW that his party is looking at having their candidate selected by next week.

Conservative Party members in Unity can cast their ballots on Friday Nov. 10 while Tories in Lloydminster and the Battlefords will select their candidate on Saturday Nov. 11.

Only members of the Conservative Party of Battlefords-Lloydminster are eligible to vote for the nominee. The deadline to register for the Tory party membership was Tuesday Nov. 7.

Advance polls leading up to the Dec 11 byelection will be Dec. 1, 2, 3,and 4.
