Rocky Horror Picture Show coming to life in N.B.

Oct 20, 2017 | 2:28 PM

Battlefords residents with a fondness for the spooky, campy Rocky Horror Picture Show may want to check out this pre-Halloween interactive party this Saturday night.

Organized by the City of North Battleford Leisure Services Dept, program manager Candace Dustan said the idea for the event came about from enquiries from a number of community residents.

“We were just looking for a fun and exciting event to bring to the Battlefords,” said Dustan. “This is something new we thought of.

“The Rocky Horror Picture show is a cult classic,” she added. “It seems to be great for a Halloween theme since we are in October and Halloween is on its way.”

People attending can dress up as their favourite character from their film or wear their own Halloween costume to get into the spirit of things.

Prior to the show they can indulge in some Rocky Horror Show themed appetizers (“Horror D’oeuvres”) by a local chef, such as the I Can Make You A Man meatloaf, pizza, popcorn and more, said Dustan. The evening also includes a DJ and dancing, and a photo booth among the activities.

Dustan said a highlight of the film screening will be the interactive component as audience members are invited to take part in the shenanigans, with help from on-screen prompts and props. “There is some singing and dancing involved,” added Dustan.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show Premiere Party is open to individuals 19 years of age and over, and will be held at the Don Ross Centre starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are available in advance at the Battlefords CO-OP Aquatic Centre and the NationsWEST Field House in North Battleford, or at the door at the Don Ross Centre before the show.

Family Halloween fun

For people looking for family fun on Halloween next week, the City of North Battleford is also offering its Halloween Howl event.

“There will be games and a bouncy house,” said Dustan. Organizers will be giving out treat bags for the first 150 goblins arriving.

Visitors can enjoy snacks, cookies, coffee and juice.

Halloween Howl takes place at the NationsWEST Field House from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sun., Oct. 29.

Meota is also planning something fun to celebrate the spooky time of the year.

People are invited to attend a Community Halloween Party at the Community Hall in Meota with games, a photo booth, and a variety of activities to take part in, as well as hot dogs and treats to sample. The event takes place Fri., Oct. 27 starting at 5 p.m.
