Second street mural coming to N.B.

Sep 27, 2017 | 5:00 PM

A second road mural is in the works for a North Battleford neighbourhood to promote unity and help slow down traffic in the area. And this new mural will celebrate Canadian veterans with a tribute to Vimy Ridge.

Over 30 neighbours came together last month to paint a mural on Clements Dr. at Hamelin St. and Bunce Cres. celebrating Canada’s 150 birthday. The mural was meant to help bring the neighbourhood together for a common goal along with slow down traffic at a busy intersection.

North Battleford safety coordinator, Herb Sutton, was directly involved with the project and said it went so well they are painting another one.

“The success was great enough we will be doing another one this weekend at 95th St. and Abbott Ave.,” Sutton said.

Sutton said he felt the goals of the first mural were thoroughly accomplished. He hopes this new mural will bring a new neighbourhood together and encouraged everyone who lives around the intersection to take part.

So far there has been no concrete data to suggest the first mural is slowing down traffic, but Sutton believes it will be successful based on data from other communities which have done similar projects.

The painting will begin around 8 a.m. on Saturday morning and should finish up around the early afternoon.
