UPDATE: Battlefords RCMP have completed a thorough search of John Paul II High School and no suspicious materials have been located.

RCMP said every threat complaint received is taken seriously and the incident is being fully investigated.

Students of John Paul II High School in North Battleford have been evacuated and RCMP are currently on scene as the school received an unconfirmed bomb threat.

According to a police release, members received the threat at 1:20 p.m. and made immediate patrols as the school enacted its safety protocols to have the school evacuated for the remainder of the day.

“After lunch, I received a phone call from one of our superintendents that there had been a threat made against the school, and we immediately contacted the school and we contacted the RCMP and enacted our safety protocols and worked on a communication and evacuation plan,” said Cory Rideout, Director of Education for Light of Christ School Division.

“It was a very unfortunate situation, but I’m very happy with how our staff and teachers acted and our safety protocols worked to a tee,” said Rideout.

RCMP added the students have relocated to a safe area and parents have been notified of the situation.

Police are currently on scene and the investigation is ongoing.
