Ed Sheeran donates $10K to Sask. children’s hospital

Ed Sheeran’s recent tour stop in Saskatchewan was about more than just music.

The pop musician grabbed headlines after a sold-out show at Saskatoon’s SaskTel Centre in July, but it was an anonymous gift that made a lasting impression.

Brynn Boback-Lane, president and CEO of Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, said she heard from the team at SaskTel Centre before the show.

Apparently Sheeran wanted to know how he could help the hospital, which is currently under construction in Saskatoon.

“You don’t expect to hear that a person like Mr. Sheeran would even know what was going on in your own community,” Boback-Lane said. “We were very humbled, and very excited of course.”

After that, Sheeran decided to contribute $10,000 towards the hospital’s foundation.

“We didn’t tell anybody because he really didn’t want it to be a big deal, he just wanted to do it.”

Boback-Lane said the project is now at 66 per cent completion. The doors are set to open in 2019.
