New CT scanner unveiled at BUH

Sep 19, 2017 | 10:15 AM

Roland Bru can now lay claim to being a part of Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) history.

The North Battleford man was the first patient examined by the new computed tomography (CT) scanner on Monday at the BUH.

“I am happy to have had the first appointment for a scan with this amazing machine,” said Bru.”It’s a great new addition to patient care at our hospital.”

The $1.2 million project included purchase of the 160-slice scanner and renovation to the CT suite to accommodate the new unit.

“It’s an exciting day for all of us in the Medical Imaging Department,” said department manager Colais Fransoo. “We are thrilled to be able to work with the up-to-date technology the new scanner provides, and to deliver faster more precise diagnostics for our patients.”

The original scanner purchased back in 2006 and was decommissioned in August. During that time patient care was not disrupted as the Prairie North Health Region brought in the mobile CT scanner to serve patients.

The Government of Saskatchewan and the Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation each contributed $600,000 for the project. CJNB/CJNS held a radiothon last year at the BUH to help raise the funds for the foundation.

“It’s nice to have the new machine here as it means a lot less travelling for me and for others,” added Bru.

The public is invited to celebrate the improved scanner during an open house on Friday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. in the main lobby of the BUH.
