Big Brothers Big Sisters honoured with special day in N.B.

With one stroke of Mayor Ryan Bater’s pen it became officially Big Brothers Big Sisters Day (BBBS) in the City of North Battleford.

“We as a city council are so proud to do this proclamation for Big Brothers Big Sisters which I believe is the very first time it’s been done,” Bater said. “This is a terrific organization to have in our city and I hope that people become more aware of them and hopefully get involved.”

BBBS program co-ordinator Renee Sperling said it was an exciting day.

“I’m so happy right now,” Sperling said. ”It just adds to the validation of the work we are doing and exposure like this will hopefully get more people interested in becoming a big brother or big sister.”

Currently BBBS has 20 young people waiting to be matched with a mentor in the Battlefords with adult males being the primary need in the area.

Bater also said he knows how much the organization is needed.

“A good big brother or big sister can set a young person on the positive path their entire life,” Bater said. “I’m so happy to see the recent renaissance of the organization.”
