Meota Terry Fox Run appreciates small showing

Sep 18, 2017 | 11:23 AM

A small but dedicated group of supporters laced up for Meota’s annual Terry Fox Run.

Roughly 20 people attended the event slightly less than last year’s count of 35. Karl Caslor who organized the event with his wife Irene was pleased with the support, nonetheless.

“They are looking for a cure,” Caslor said. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s $10, $5, or $100, everything goes to research for a cure for cancer.”

This year’s the event raised roughly $1,700. From 2014 to 2016, the event raised $10,487.

Meota Mayor John MacDonald was on hand to speak at the event. He added it’s important to keep the walk going in the community.

“It has to continue. [The Terry Fox Foundation] needs funding and that’s what it’s all about,” he said.

Florence Bru from Meota, said this is her first time participating in the walk. Years previous her work schedule kept her from taking part.

“Now I’m partially retired so I thought this is a good time to start,” she said.

Bru’s husband Maurice has been battling bone-marrow cancer for the past year and is now in remission. Her parents also died of cancer prompting her decision to join the race.
