City hosting drive-in movie night

Sep 13, 2017 | 12:00 PM

Families in the Battlefords will have an opportunity to experience a new, yet old, way to watch a movie this Friday evening.

The City of North Battleford Leisure Services department will be having a free drive-in movie as part of its Send-Off to Summer event, now in its fourth year.

The film Despicable Me 3 will be shown on the big screen outside, at the corner of Heritage Way and Carlton Trail – behind the Gold Eagle Casino – starting at 8 p.m.

“It should be fun for the whole family,” said the city’s communications co-ordinator Robert Oberlander.

Despicable Me 3 is an animated comedy that’s a continuation of the Minions saga.

“It’s a great way to end the summer with the family. Park your car, come early,” said Oberlander.

People taking in the show can park their vehicles starting at 5 p.m. They may also want to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Before the film, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., outside the nearby Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre, families will want to check out some of the various activities to entertain the kids.

“There will be all kinds of stuff,” said Oberlander.

Kids can enjoy a range of carnival games, play in the bouncy castle, or watch the balloon man perform.

And don’t forget the popcorn. A number of food vendors will be on hand providing snacks for a bite before the show also.

Some of the sponsors of the event include Magic Lantern Theatres, Rivers West District and Innovation Credit Union.
