Community block party planned for N.B.

Sep 5, 2017 | 12:00 PM

A North Battleford neighbourhood might be a little livelier this Sunday when a planned block party brings people together for free entertainment, give-aways and food.

The Neighbourhood Wellness Block Party event, hosted by the North Battleford Good Neighbour Network and the Battlefords and District Labour Council, will take place Sept. 10 from 12 to 5 p.m. in the 1200 block of 107th St.

Steven Cormons, with the Neighbour Network, is helping organize the event.

“By [having] a block party for everyone to get together, to meet each other and get to know each other, in some ways it sends a signal to those who aren’t interested in healthy, well neighbourhoods that we are standing together,” he said.

Cormons’ group has 269 members on its Facebook Page and brings together community minded people. He hoped the event was a step towards safer neighbourhoods.

The event includes information booths the local Big Brothers Big Sisters and Catholic Family Services, several live bands, a performance by a traditional drum group, and a number of kids’ activities.

Organizers are looking for more volunteers and invite those attending the event to donate school supplies.
