U-14 Western Canadian Softball Championships underway at the flats

Aug 4, 2017 | 1:42 PM

Fifteen softball teams have arrived in the Battlefords and are set to compete in the 2017 U14 Western Canadian Softball ‘B’ Championships over the course of the long weekend.

In fact, the tournament is already underway.

Games for the nine girls teams and six boys teams began on Friday morning and will go until Monday, with the championship game scheduled on the last day at 1 p.m. for both divisions.

All eyes will be on the hometown Battleford Bandits on the girls side, who missed out on finishing top-two at provincials in early July, which means there will be three Saskatchewan teams, in addition to two each from B.C., Alberta, and Manitoba. The Saskatchewan teams that qualified at provincials are the Unity Panthers and Alameda SE Super Novas.
