Street festival set to kick off today in North Battleford

Jul 28, 2017 | 12:30 PM

Kent Lindgren said he’s had this weekend circled on his calendar for months and now it’s finally here as the North Battleford Street Performer Festival kicks off today.

For the next three days visitors to downtown North Battleford will be treated to some of the greatest jugglers, magicians and entertainers from around the world.

Sponsors and volunteers were treated to a sneak peak at some of the performers at the Gold Eagle Casino on Thursday evening and Lindgren, who is a member of the planning committee, thinks an event like this will only boost the city’s image.

“This is a world class event and the performers are world class as well,” Lindgren said. “We hope the community is excited for this event because we have a variety of entertainers from different backgrounds and it’s going to draw thousands to the downtown North Battleford area.”

Entertainers include comedians Ron Pearson, impressionist Silver Elvis and the Kamikaze Fireflies who appeared on America’s Got Talent.

Juggler Mat Ricardo travelled from London, England to be at this weekend’s event and said event-goers are in for a real treat.

“It’s going to be a great time you know,” Ricardo said. “I’ve spent my life travelling the world performing at festivals and it’s always a pleasure to be somewhere new like North Battleford.

“I’ve been here for a few days and the people seem lovely and I think we are going to have a lot of fun.”

The free event runs tonight from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
