Man arrested in Biggar for possession and vehicle theft

A Biggar man is in custody after stealing a truck from the Battlefords and being found with methamphetamine.

Reno Vincent Poitras, 23 was arrested after Biggar RCMP received information from Battlefords RCMP that a stolen truck from the Battlefords detachment had entered the Biggar area shortly after midnight on July 22. 

Biggar RCMP located the truck on the 300 block of 5th Ave. East. According to a press release, a lone male fled from the truck into a nearby residence. Police were able to locate and arrest the male, later identified as Poitras.

Poitras was found with roughly $1,150 in cash and sever individual bags of white powder, which police have identified as methamphetamine.

Poitras has been charged with flight from police, possession of stolen property of a value exceeding $5,000 and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

Poitras, of Biggar, made his first appearance in North Battleford provincial court on July 24. He has been remanded to Aug. 1.
