Plans underway for upcoming Northwest Territorial Days event

Jul 22, 2017 | 11:43 AM

The Battlefords Agricultural Society is getting ready once again to host the Northwest Territorial Days Exhibition and Parade in North Battleford.

The event kick starts with a parade at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15, while the exhibition and shows run from Wednesday, August 16 to Friday, August 18 in North Battleford.

This year marks the 130th year for Northwest Territorial Days. The Ag Society notes on its website this event has been running even longer than the City of North Battleford has existed.

Jocelyn Ritchie, the general manager for the Battlefords Agricultural Society, says there will be some changes for this year’s show.

“Our parade is going to be on the Tuesday. The exhibition itself is only running Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. So we’re not going to have any (shows) on Tuesday. Before, we had the chariots and chuckwagons on Tuesday. They will be running Wednesday and Thursday (instead) this year only.”

Despite, Ritchie said there will be plenty to take in at Territorial Days. Some of the captivating entertainment includes the Nerveless Nocks Thrill Show, a performance called the Globe of Death and a world champion juggler. All this will run alongside draft horses, a light horse show as well as ample children’s entertainment. Visitors can also enjoy the midway rides and a variety of food booths.

The Ag Society is encouraging the community to come see the many events and shows at the exhibition grounds and inside the Battlefords Agrivilla and Agriplex.

Wednesday night, organizers are looking forward to the Sask Express Canada 150th anniversary celebration starting at 8 p.m. at the grandstand. Thursday, the Grand Ole Opry will be on, featuring a variety of singers and musicians taking the stage.

“Of course, we have our famous Demo Derby on Friday, and other great grandstand shows,” Ritchie said, adding the event, as always, wraps up with fireworks at dusk.
