Town of Battleford sets mill rate

Jul 19, 2017 | 11:29 AM

Residents of the town of Battleford will soon learn what their new property taxes will be.

Council approved the new 2017 mill rate for the year at its meeting Monday. The new rate for the town of Battleford has been set at 2.95 mills for 2017, lower than the 2016 rate of 4.15 mills.

“With it being an assessment year and the value of homes going up, you actually are going to receive more money to your tax base,” Mayor Ames Leslie said. “Council’s mandate to administration is we wanted to stay within a three per cent increase of operational funds. In order to stay at only a three per cent increase, the mill rate had to come backwards.”

Even though the mill rate is lower this year, residents’ taxes may still increase depending on their property re-assessments.
