Habitat for humanity project near completion

Jul 14, 2017 | 11:52 AM

After a two-and-a-half year wait, the organizing committee for the Battlefords chapter of Habitat for Humanity is just weeks away from handing over the keys to the new owner.

The house, located at 1121 106 St. in North Battleford, was started in the spring of 2014 and was expected to be completed by December of 2015. However, issues arose when finding skilled volunteers delayed the project on numerous occasions.

Cathy Richardson, a board member of the Battlefords Habitat for Humanity, said the property will be handed over on July 26 with a ceremony and dignitaries on hand.

“We are very excited about this coming to fruition,” Richardson said. “It’s been a long time coming for sure but we do see a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Richardson also added that they still have plenty of work to be done before the unveiling of the Habitat Home.

“We still have projects that need to be completed before the family moves,” Richardson added. “We have baseboards that need to be painted, windows that need to be cleaned and all the fixtures like doorknobs and such need to be done as well.”

Richardson also noted that they need experienced individuals to help hang doors for the project as well.
