Spray parks open to help beat the heat

Jul 9, 2017 | 3:34 PM

Following the conclusion of Saturday’s severe thunderstorm watch, the Battlefords were in for another scorcher today.

Temperatures were expected to reach up to 28 C but climbed to the 31 C mark with humidity factored in.

This sweltering weekend comes at the perfect time, as North Battleford’s spray parks at Centennial and Kinsmen Park opened for the season last weekend to help residents beat the heat.

The parks are open on weekends from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

While there is some cloud cover, residents should still be wary about spending too much time in the sun as the UV index is at 8, or very high.

A high UV index increases the chance of sunburn, so be sure to slap on some sunscreen this afternoon. As for those cooling off at the spray parks, make sure to apply waterproof sunscreen to ensure you’re not left unprotected.

Moving into the evening, the Battlefords can expect cloud cover and a risk of a thunderstorm overnight, and showers are expected to continue through Monday.
