RCMP Musical Ride showcases iconic Canadian symbol

Jun 4, 2017 | 11:44 AM

Fort Battleford hosted an event Saturday evening that could not have been more Canadian.

Hundreds gathered for the RCMP’s Musical Ride, a showcase of officers in their iconic Red Serge uniforms on horseback.

Tami Conley-Blais, the special events coordinator, said the event is fun-filled, yet important for the community to attend.

“The RCMP Musical Ride is the Canadian iconic symbol, and it’s just worldwide famous and it’s just a fantastic event to see,” she said.

As part of Canada’s 150 anniversary, the opening show featured a historical fashion show where a variety of models showcased traditional outfits imported from across Canada.

“This [year] is also Parks Canada’s 100 anniversary for national historic sites,” Conley-Blais said. “We thought that would be a great addition to the Musical Ride, and celebrate both the historic sites and Canada 150 all in one.”

Concluding the opening event, Mounties arrived on horseback to perform. They showed off different synchronized formations, zigging and zagging between one another in a spectacular fashion. They performed a lance drill, a charge, and took one final formation for the national anthem.

The crowd soaked up the night of entertainment and Canadian culture.
