New theatre to open a week early

Magic Lantern Theatres has officially announced the newly renovated Capitol Theatre in North Battleford will be open to the public next Friday.

Tom Hutchinson with Magic Lantern confirmed today the renovations are ahead of schedule and will be holding the very first viewing on June 2. The first movie to come to the theatre will be Wonder Woman. The movie will play for a week, two times a day before being replaced with another film.

Hutchinson added almost all the new seats are installed so the auditorium is near completion and he expects the lobby to be done within the next week. He added movie goers should be able to buy their tickets in advance next week.

“The computer guys still have to do their thing with the website,” Hutchinson said. “Let’s say they [tickets] will be available for purchase on Wednesday, May 31.”

The theatre has been shut down for renovations since Magic Lantern purchased it from the previous owners in mid-February.

There is still no word yet on when construction of the five-screen cinema will start but, both the city and Magic Lantern say it is still planned to go ahead.
