Scoring not a problem, but Beavers fall in season opener

May 24, 2017 | 8:00 AM

The North Battleford Beavers fell 10-8 to the Standard Hill Lakers in their North Saskatchewan River Baseball League season opener on Tuesday night at Beaver Lions Stadium.

Despite digging themselves out of an 8-5 hole late in the game to force extras, it ultimately wasn’t enough, as the Lakers scored two runs in the eighth to come away with the extra-innings win. One of those runs came on a one-out double, while the other was an RBI single up the middle that got Standard Hill to double digits.

Meanwhile, the inaugural season of the North Battleford Trappers got off to a near-perfect start. They had no trouble on either side of the ball in their season opener against the defending champion Wilkie Brewers, tearing them apart 12-1.

That turned out to be a popular score on Tuesday night, as the Border City Blue Jays won 12-1 over the St. Walburg Reds and the Lloydminster Twins won 12-1 over the Midwest Expos.
