Relay for life returns to the Battlefords

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life returns to the Battlefords this year after a one-year hiatus.

The Relay had been held in the area every year since 2002, but was put on hold last year because of a lack of an organizing committee. Kalina Barlow a fundraising specialist for the Canadian Cancer Society said this year a committee has been formed and the event will procede.

“It was unfortunate that we could not get a committee in place for last year,” Barlow explained. “We have seen tremendous success in the Battlefords area over the years and this year we have a great team in place and we are excited that we can restart and rejuvenate the Relay for Life in the Battlefords.”

From 2002 to 2015 the Relay for Life has raised over $1.5 million in the Battlefords area. The most successful campaign was held in 2008 when 48 teams combined to raise $140,000. That year also saw 541 participants and 208 survivors take to the track, record numbers of each.
