Fairview subdivision master plan presented

Apr 18, 2017 | 5:00 PM

The city’s planning committee was presented with the Fairview subdivision master plan and though it looks exciting, don’t expect it to move in anytime soon.

At last night’s planning committee meeting North Battleford council was shown what the Fairview subdivision could look like in a few decades. Ryan King of AECOM had a PowerPoint presentation prepared with numerous slides showing what the various plots of land would be used for and provided an overall concept of what the subdivision would look like.

Though it was a great presentation and the plan looks attractive city manager Jim Puffalt said he doesn’t see a shovel hitting the ground until the Kildeer subdivision is close to sold out.

“The Kildeer subdivision is up this spring and we want to finish that off,” Puffalt said. “Depending on sales we’ll leapfrog over to Fairview. We will probably get started on the park sooner rather than later because we have some drainage issues to deal with.”

Puffalt said Kildeer is the priority this year with lots available for purchasing in the fall. He hopes to complete preliminary projects later this year, but admits it could be early 2018. but he is hoping to get preliminary projects done late this year but, more likely early next year.

During the presentation, King said the Fairview subdivision could take upwards of 50 years to complete and covers 260 acres. The subdivision will be built in phases and he suggested starting with apartment buildings on Territorial Dr. He said it is ultimately up to the city to decide where to start.

The plans included a new school, pond, plaza and a variety of different housing spaces from apartment buildings to single family detached homes. Puffalt added the new Fairview subdivision will house roughly 3,300 people.
