Winter Games staff to host barbecue this weekend

On Monday, Feb. 20 locals can celebrate their Family Day by attending a barbecue and information event on the 2018 Saskatchewan Winter Games to be hosted in North Battleford.

According to David Schell, co-chair of the games, this is the first of many events coming up to promote awareness.

“There will be many different games and activities for the kids,” Schell said. “There will be demonstrations of the 17 sports being played. It is just going to be a fun day to kickoff one year until the games.”

According to Schell the highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the two mascots for the games. Both will join other mascots for a competition.

“Maybe that will bring out some people too for the mascot challenge, it is kind of a surprise,” Schell said. “They’ll have to come to see.”

Along with demonstrations of the games in the Field House, there will be booths set up for those interested in getting involved or seeking more information. Schell said the main point of the event is to make everyone aware the games will soon be here.

“We don’t want anyone in the Battlefords unaware that the games are coming because they aren’t going to want to miss them,” he said.
