The Battlefords member of legislative assembly (MLA) is backing city council and plans to lobby the provincial government in support of local school boards against amalgamation.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Education’s proposed plans for a merger of the school boards have been met with a lot of concern according to Battlefords MLA Herb Cox. The potential plans are to make one big school board, a few bigger school boards or keep it at the status quo.

Cox said he has received correspondence from a lot concerned citizens as to the direction the department will take in regards to amalgamation. When asked if he supports the local school boards he responded he has already begun fighting for them.

“Absolutely, I have already had a conversation with the education minister,” Cox told battlefordsNOW. “I have met with school boards and spoke with educators and I am certainly carrying that message to the ministry.”
