Lexie Adzija scores twice as Ontario Red stays unbeaten at U18 championship

REGINA — Lexie Adzija had two goals and an assist as Ontario Red remained undefeated with a 5-3 victory over Saskatchewan on Friday at the Canadian under-18 women’s hockey championship.

Jessica Digirolamo, Sarah Fillier and Daryl Watts, into an empty net, also scored for Ontario Red (3-0-0).

Jordyn Holmes struck twice for Saskatchewan (1-2-0) with Nara Elia adding the other.

Loryn Porter made 23 saves for her second win of the tournament while Chantal Burke turned aside 43 shots in defeat. 

Ontario Blue (2-1-0) picked up its second win of the tournament after Helen Markovic scored on a penalty shot with 19 second left in the third period to beat Team Atlantic 2-1.

Sierra Burt also scored for Ontario Blue and Tristyn Elford made 25 saves for the win in net.

Brette Pettet found the back of the net for Team Atlantic (0-3-0) and Ava Boutilier stopped 49 shots.

Manitoba picked up its first win of the event after Taylor Wabick converted in the sixth round of the shootout to lead her province past Quebec 3-2.

Ashton Bell and Lauren Warkentin tied the game at 2-2 for Manitoba.

Audrey-Anne Veillette had a pair of power-play goals for Quebec (2-0-1).

And, British Columbia (2-1-0) advanced to the tournament’s semifinals after a 3-1 win against Alberta.

Maegan Beres, Courtney Vorster and Olivia Knowles supplied the offence for B.C.

Ireland Perrott scored in the first period for Alberta.
