Discovery Co-op celebrates grand re-opening of Home Centre

Nov 4, 2016 | 2:00 PM

The Discovery Co-op’s newly renovated Home Centre is officially open this weekend.

The new centre is nearly twice as big, leaving a lot more room for displays and items out on the sales floor, according to Discovery Co-op general manager Mike Nord.

“It’s a lot more user-friendly for our customers. They can come in and get what they want without maybe having to wait as they might have had to before,” he said. “We’re very proud of what we have here.”

The grand re-opening on Friday, Nov. 4 featured speeches, a ribbon cutting, special deals and draws. The special events will continue into Saturday for the grand opening.

The Home Centre is also accepting donations to the food bank during its opening Friday and Saturday where items can be dropped off in store.

Nord said the updated centre is a reflection of what customers want, and the Co-op is able to respond to customer needs because members live in and care about the community. He said the dedication members feel to the Battlefords area is demonstrated throughout the community.

“It’s not just about donating money, which last year we donated $150,000, but it’s also about volunteering time,” he said. “Our volunteer hours from our employees last year was around 5,000 hours. That’s significant, that’s saying something about how we truly do care about the people who live here.”

Nord thanked customers and staff for sticking out the renovations, as the store remained open throughout. He said the staff has remained the same, with the addition of some new jobs that come along with a bigger store.
