United Way continues fundraising efforts into winter

The Battleford’s United Way is pushing their fundraising efforts into November after missing their initial goals last month.

“We’re going right through the month of November this year in the hopes that we can even get close to our goal of $50,000,” Rose Silzer-Quinn, event campaign coordinator, said. “The donations haven’t come in the way we were hoping, so we’re really going to be stepping up our efforts, hoping that we can encourage the business community to continue with their generosity.”

While the United Way did not meet their fundraising goals, Silzer-Quinn said she isn’t too concerned, and is focused on raising money.

Through October, the organization held events like a chilli bun-luncheon, coffee on the run, and a jersey day for individual contribution, but want to look towards bigger donations.

“We’ve had a few fun things going on in October just to be fed up and be a little bit more visible in the community, and allow folks to have a bit of fun with donating smaller amounts, but now we’re hoping for the larger dollars to come from the businesses,” she said.

Silzer-Quinn is hoping to utilize the organization’s new superhero Unity by visiting businesses personally.

The United Way advocates for donations on behalf of groups, such as the Boys and Girls Club, the Battlefords and Area Sexual Assault Centre and the Canadian Mental Health Association.
