Rain and snow continues to slow harvest

Oct 20, 2016 | 12:00 PM

The rain and snow in the northwest caused another slow week for producers.

According to this past week’s crop report, 78 per cent of the crop is in the bin but the five year average for this time of year is 98 per cent.

More than 25 cm of snow was reported in the Meadow Lake and Barthel areas with other areas reporting up to 20 cm. Total precipitation ranged from 5 mm in Radisson to 47 mm in Meadow Lake.

Crops are damaged by bleaching, sprouting and lodging due to the rain and snow and waterfowl have started to feed on the crops.
