North Stars’ Sych suspended four games, Bruins’ Rieger gets two

Today, the league handed down punishment to two players for separate instances in the North Star’s 10-3 win over Estevan on Saturday.

Connor Sych was suspended for four games for a hit to the head on Jake Fletcher in the third period, while Bruins defenceman Josh Rieger was given a two-game ban for his knee-on-knee hit to North Stars forward Logan Nachtegaele.

Both players received a five-minute major and game misconduct in the game.

Nachtegaele will be out of the North Stars lineup for roughly three weeks because of the collision with Rieger.

The North Stars also lost assistant captain Reed Delainey in the first period, after he took a hard hit from Fletcher. Delainey is now dealing with what North Stars head coach Nate Bedford is calling a “mild concussion.”

“We’ll just kind of see how the doctor report goes on Thursday and just play it by year but we’re not going to rush him back,” Bedford said. “It’s unfortunate but it’s the way the game was Saturday.”

The North Stars exploded for 10 goals that evening thanks to multi-point nights from 11 different players.

They will host the first-place Humboldt Broncos on Friday night at the Civic Centre without assistant captain Sych, who will also miss games against La Ronge on Saturday, Kindersley next Tuesday, and Yorkton on Friday, Oct. 28.

Rieger will miss games on Wednesday against Melville and Friday against Nipawin.
